INFORMATION FOR MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC
Council meetings are held at 7 pm on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month, with the exception
of the August Recess, at the Town Council Offices in Victoria Avenue, Porthcawl.
PUBLIC QUESTION TIME: A BASIC GUIDE TO PROTOCOL
Porthcawl Town Council is one of very few Councils which provide the opportuntiy for questions to be put directly
to the Mayor. The guidelines below are offered to ensure that every member of the public is treated with fairness, and
that the Council meeting runs smoothly.
At the agenda item "Public Question Time" the Mayor will ask if any member of the public present has a question
he\she wishes to put to the meeting. Any member of the public wishing to put a question to the meeting will be advised
of the protocol, which is as follows:-

Your question must be addressed to the Mayor and not to any other Councillor.

You may ask only one question, therefore it is essential to ensure that your question is clear and concise.

It is important that you put a question of the Mayor rather than make a statement. Public
Question Time is not an opportunity for a speech.

You will not be able to ask questions during the remained of the meeting.

Should the Mayor not be able to answer your question either in part or in entirety you are entitled to have
a written answer from the Mayor within 10 days of the date of the meeting.
Questions\Comments in Writing
If you are unable to attend a Council meeting or would prefer to put your question in writing you are able to
do so by addressing your communication to the Town Clerk, Town Council Offices, 24 Victoria Avenue, Porthcawl, CF36 3HG
and your letter will be placed before all Councillors for consideration as an agenda item at a future meeting of
Council.
Complaints Handling Policy
Porthcawl Town Council has adopted a complaints handling policy to ensure any complaints received are dealt
with in the proper manner. Copies of the complaints handling policy can be obtained from the Town Counil
Offices upon request.
